Love and Self-Respect

January 27

Quote: “If we lose love and self-respect for each other, this is how we finally die.” Maya Angelou

Meditation: “Being holy” that means “being whole”. When two partners engage sexually, they in certain ways become “one”. When there is love, the oneness can be experienced as “wholeness”, as fulfilling, as safe and affirming. When there is an absence of love, the sexual encounter can leave wounds that take a long time to heal, as our body IS us, as we ARE our body. To have another person so physically and intimately connected with us, and then experience the absence of love leaves often a sense of being violated, of being used and of being taken advantage of. God wants that we respect our bodies and each other, as our bodies are the homes of our souls. If our bodies become violated, our souls do too. God wants to protect us from any harm. And when sexual encounters have brought us harm, God wants to heal our emotional wounds and our violated bodies and make us whole again.

Prayer: God, thank you for caring deeply not just about our souls, but also about our bodies. Help us set healthy boundaries in relationships that are not healthy and give us the courage to walk away. Help us celebrate our sexuality when we are in a safe and loving relationship. You created us as vulnerable sexual human beings. Thank you for embracing and protecting all of who we are. Amen

Thessalonians 4:3 For it is God’s will that you should be holy: You must abstain from sexual immorality.
