Our Exhaustion- God’s Opportunity

The truth of human freedom lies in the love that breaks down barriers. Jürgen Moltmann

Meditation: Sometimes we work very hard. But no matter how hard we try, doors do not open up. The reward of our labor does not show. We feel there are obstacles all around: skepticism, criticism, lack of support, loneliness and lack of resources. It feels like no matter how good a work we do, no matter how intensely we labor, there seem to be mountains after mountains to climb and closed doors all around to bang our heads on. And then we run out of resources – we become exhausted. God’s promise to walk before us, to level our mountains, to break through steel doors and to replenish us with new resources breaks into our loneliness and struggle. “I am not walking alone”. Love is the realization of being seen, of being known as I am facing obstacles. This kind of love feels healing. The promise to make a way for me, to give me all I need, and even bestow riches upon me feels like a promise that might be too good to be true. But it is not! God gave water and bread to the Israelites in the desert, and God will give you and me bread and water as we walk through our desert of anxiety and exhaustion. God says: “Come, eat and drink, for the journey is far”.

Prayer: God, your are ultimate abundance. You want to give us all the resources we need to flourish. You remove obstacles that we cannot overcome ourselves. You have hidden plans of secret riches that you want to bestow upon us, just when we come to our wits end. Thank you for your bountiful Spirit. Amen

I will go before you and will level the mountains; I will break down gates of bronze and cut through bars of iron. I will give you hidden treasures, riches stored in secret places, so that you may know that I am the LORD, the God of Israel, who summons you by name. Isaiah 45, 2-3
